Books in Our Home and in Our Lives
My grandchildren ages 5 to 15 are amazed at my book collection. In my office genealogy books, in my husbands office his books and the children's books, in the hallway more genealogy, church, and others, and in the kitchen is a shelf of extended family books. The family books are from my parents, grandparents and other extended family. Some books left our home as our children moved out or wanted some for their own collections. We thinned them out some when we moved. It will be a hard day when they are no more ours!

Revolutionary War Books
I did it, I finished the 776 page book, The British are Coming by Rick Atkinson. It is like the never ending book 564 pages and for me it will be the end as I am going to skip reading the notes 135 pages and sources 42 pages. The print in these two sections is way too small for my eyes. Then there is the index 22 pages. The best part of the book are the maps 24 pages. If these numbers don't add up to the total pages it's okay. I also recently read books by Nathaniel Philbrick and David Hackett Fischer about the Revolutionary War. Do you have any favorite books about this war?

Surviving Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Sane
Surviving Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Sane
It has been over two months since I posted on February 16 about reading Nathan Dylan Goodwin's books. At that time I had read three of his books. Shortly after the Stay at Home order due to the
Covid19 virus a local library notified me that book four was on hold for me. At the time they were shut down and I tried to find a way to access the book. Finally I told them I would pay the postage if they would mail me the book. The book arrived April 7 and I thoroughly enjoyed reading that wonderful book. There are still five more in his genealogy based mystery series. Those in the
genealogy world have offered their heart felt appreciation of his writing.

Shopping for Books, Unexpected Surprises
Recently I resigned from several city boards, including the library board. Serving on the boards was rewarding, yet stressful. With my health concerns I no longer felt I could give this service. Besides I am moving into more involvement in the genealogy field. The library board sent me a wonderful card of appreciation along with a gift card to Barnes and Noble. The closest store to us is at the local major shopping mall, so I went on Tuesday to spend this generous gift.

Reading is Addicting for Genealogists
This year I read some very interesting books. First I read, Albion's Seed, by David Hackett Fischer, published by Oxford University Press, 1989, 946 pages. Then I read From Deference to Defiance, Charlestown, Massachusetts, 1629-1692 by Roger Thompson, published by the New England Historical Genealogical Society, Boston, 2012, 593 pages. These two books helped to expand my knowledge of how the United States came to be and I highly recommended them. The more I read the more I want to know and understand my own heritage. The first book I borrowed from the Genealogical Forum of Oregon and the second book I purchased from the New England Historical Genealogical Society.

Genealogy Serendipity Moments - Finding Books in Unexpected Places
This week I am posting two serendipity moments that occurred in the last two days. First, I will start with today's find at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. I met this morning with a client to share the results of a current research project for her family. We had a pleasant meeting and it was exciting to see her appreciation of the information that was gathered. After we parted, I returned to the GFO for some reading materials I will be reviewing for our publication. Because her project intrigued me so much, I stopped to see if there were family histories in the books for two of the families.
