Mail Box Full of Book Packages

Got some great books in the mail today. There are five, three related to work on the book. The fifth is the book, The Foundlings Book by Nathan Dylan Goodwin from Amazon. There is a webinar April 29, 2002, which includes Diahan Southard This is the most recent in his series and this time I ordered a copy for me which I will share back to the library. This is a great book for relaxing my mind before I move onto the next phase of the book. The other books include two for Quaker research and one about Gentle Tamers, Woman of the Old Wild West. These three came from the Genealogical Forum of Oregon surplus book sales. Great prices and as a Life Member they are half price. The last book and maybe the most exciting is, The Register Book of the Lands and Houses in the New Towne, and the Towne of Cambridge and the Records of the Proprietors of the Common Lands, Being Generally Called "The Proprietors Records" in 1635, printed in 1896, 410 pages, from ABE Books. The index is rather brief, but does list two Tidd family members, Lydia Teed and John Tidd. So now to take some down time and do a little reading. I now have town books for all of the ancestral towns where the Tidds lived from 1637 to 1860. These are rare books and capture the true nature of each town. Now back to the Foundlings!

It has been over two months since I posted on February 16 about reading Nathan Dylan Goodwin's books. At that time I had read three of his books. Shortly after the Stay at Home order due to the Covid19 virus a local library notified me that book four was on hold for me. At the time they were shut down and I tried to find a way to access the book. Finally I told them I would pay the postage if they would mail me the book. The book arrived April 7 and I thoroughly enjoyed reading that wonderful book. There are still five more in his genealogy based mystery series. Those in the genealogy world have offered their heart felt appreciation of his writing.

Genealogy Reading - Collecting Free Material Part II

In April 2014 was the first posting under this title. It reflected the reading of periodicals that were picked up from free reading materials at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. With the reading of those materials there was a wealth of knowledge about the periodicals themselves and about the contents. Recently my visit there gleaned a few books and a copy of Family Tree Magazine and a copy of New England Ancestors. One book was, "A Guide to County Records in the Illinois Regional Archives" and while it is a bit dated, it will provide a glimpse of the holdings of some great resources. For today though my focus in sharing is on the books received from a dear friend who is disposing of her genealogy books. Her life is moving on into another direction and she very kindly is allowing me to distribute her books to repositories where they will benefit other researchers. Before doing so, this is availing me the opportunity to read some great works by some very well-known genealogy professionals and other writers.

Genealogy Reading Update

Five months ago my post on Genealogy Reading listed a collection of magazines and other publications that were waiting to be read. There were one hundred overall and today there are twenty-one publications left to read. The feeling of almost completing this task is wonderful.
